An article of mine (in Turkish language) titled “Sesin Özgürleşmesi: Müzik Prodüksiyonu Teknolojileri” (Liberation of Sound: Music Production Technologies) is published in the January 2013 edition of Birikim Magazine. Birikim is a highly recognized, monthly socialist culture magazine in Turkey.

The proceedings of 2nd CompMusic Workshop, which was held in July 12th-13th, 2012 in Bahçeşehir University, are now online. In the proceedings, I have a paper titled An Approach for Linking Score and Audio Recordings in Makam Music of Turkey. I have also contributed to another paper titled A Musically Aware System for Browsing and Interacting with Audio Music Collections.

The presentations of the 2nd CompMusic Workshop, which was hosted in Bahçeşehir University between 12th and 13th July 2012, is online in CompMusic Project‘s Youtube channel. Music Hack Day is a hacking session in which participants will conceptualize, create and present their projects. Music + software + mobile + hardware + art + the web: Anything goes as long as it’s music related. Sonar is the world famous festival of advanced music and multimedia art that takes place Barcelona in every June.

On Tuesday June 12th 2012 at 10:15, I will defend my PhD. thesis proposal named, “Computational Characterization of Seyirs in Makam Music in Turkey”. The defense will take place in room 55.410 in the Tànger Building in the Poblenou campus of Universitat Pompeu Fabra. The event is public and everybody is welcome to come.

The conference paper titled “Crossole: A Gestural Interface for Composition, Improvisation and Performance using Kinect” will be presented in NIME 2012, Ann Harbor, MI. The International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) is an annual interdisciplinary conference discussing contemporary topics in electronic musical interface design, research and practice.

A paper about Crossole, a virtual instrument developed by Sang Won Lee, Avinash Sastry, Anosh Daruwalla and myself have been accepted to NIME 2012. The conference will be held in University of Michigan between 21 and 23 May.
